Behind the Lens: How We Shot the Onyx & Alabaster Brand Film

When Onyx & Alabaster approached us about creating a brand film, they had a clear vision: they wanted their audience to feel the intentionality behind every design decision they make.

The Brief

Sarah Mitchell, their Creative Director, told us in our first meeting: "We don't just design rooms. We design how people feel when they walk into a space." That became our north star for the entire production.

Pre-Production

We spent two weeks in pre-production — unusual for a brand film of this scope, but essential. We:

  • Visited three of their active project sites
  • Interviewed their design team about their process
  • Studied their existing brand materials and social presence
  • Created a detailed shot list organized by narrative arc
  • The Shoot

Principal photography took three days across two locations in Franklin, TN. We shot on a cinema camera with vintage anamorphic lenses to give the footage a warm, organic quality that matched their design aesthetic.

    Key creative decisions:

  • Natural light only — We scheduled each location around golden hour
  • Macro details — Close-up shots of textures, materials, and hardware
  • Process footage — Sarah and her team selecting fabrics, reviewing plans
  • Finished spaces — The reveal moments that show the final result
  • Post-Production

The edit took two weeks. We created a custom color grade that matched their brand palette — warm neutrals with rich shadows. The soundtrack was licensed from a Nashville composer who created an original score.

    The Result

12,000+ views in the first month. A 3x increase in inquiry volume. And a piece of content that continues to work for their brand every single day.
